Why do students prefer UK as the destination of Higher Education?

The UK has been able to draw international students for a reason. It boasts of internationally renowned universities, a diverse range of courses and good connections with industry and research. The students enjoy reduced courses, multicultural classes, and global employers after graduation. In addition to academics, UK has a rich history and cultural diversity, as well as student-friendly cities that make studying abroad a life-altering experience.

To the Indian students specifically, the UK offers a clear-cut and orderly visa route, and this makes the UK student visa to Indian students one of the most sought-after in the world.

What Is a UK Student Visa?

To study in a licensed UK educational institution, international students of 16 years and above are allowed through a UK study visa. Before applying, you have to possess an offer in one of the recognised universities or colleges and satisfy academic requirements, financial requirements and language requirements.

This is a compulsory visa, required to most full-time courses in the UK and has to be applied for online through the official website Gov.uk.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility and Age Requirement.

In order to qualify as a student visa applicant to the UK, you should:

                      • Be offered a lifetime opportunity by a UK institution with a valid student sponsor licence.
                      • Get a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) number at your university.
                      • Show substantial income to meet tuition fees and maintenance.
                      • Demonstrate  proficiency in English language(or requisite MOI in some cases).
                      • Give the parental or guardian consent when you are 16 or 17 years old.

All the international applicants, such as those who seek a visa in the UK as an Indian student, are subject to these criteria.

When Can You Arrive in the UK?

The time window of your arrival would be conditional on the duration of your course:

                            • In the event that your course does not exceed  6 months, you can access the UK within a maximum of a week prior to the commencement date of the course.
                            • You can arrive within a period of  1 month of your course start in case your course spanning more than six months.

This is one of the rules you have to consider when planning your travel to prevent problems during immigration.

                                Financial Requirements: Maintenance Funds Explained.

Maintenance funds or also referred to as proof of funds, are one of the most critical UK student visa requirements. Depending on where you are going to study, the amount varies:

                                    • In the case of London based universities , you have to demonstrate a minimum of £1,334/month up to a period of 9 months.
                                    • In the case of universities  outside of  London, the amount is £1,023 every month to be demonstrated and which should last up to 9 months.
                                    • These are cumulative(addition) to your tuition fees, and you have to have these funds as per UKVI regulations upon application.

                                    English Language Requirements

The majority of the universities  in the UK demand evidence of English language proficiency. Some generally accepted standards are:

                                        • Degree programs IELTS overall band score of 6.0(Not less than 5.5 in each section)
                                        • IELTS 5.5  for foundation or pathway courses.
                                        • There are institutions where they can skip IELTS in case you have good scores in English in your class 12 exams or a medium of instruction document can be provided by school or college. Nevertheless language examination with requisite score always supersedes anything else to make a stronger case for the university application.
